Administrative Professionals Day – Will You Miss the Boat???

News Flash!!! If you don’t already know, this week, April 20 – 26, 2008, is Administrative Professionals week. The last full week of April is the period of time established to recognize and celebrate the contributions of our dedicated secretaries, office professionals and administrative assistants. Wednesday of that week is officially designated as Administrative Professionals Day. The tradition dates back to 1952 when the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) and a consortium of office product manufacturers organized the week as a time to recognize secretaries and was dubbed as “National Secretaries Week”. Subsequently, it has evolved and become known as today as Administrative Professionals Week”.

Customarily, this is a time when managers, supervisors or bosses take time out of their busy schedules to take their secretaries, administrative assistants and other office professionals to lunch in recognition of the invaluable services that they provide. So, don’t skip this meaningful opportunity to express your appreciation for their arduous and laborious efforts keeping you organized, your itinerary updated and maintaining a balanced temperament while coping with your whims under the heat of fire. This is a time to reflect and truly show your appreciation.

If time doesn’t permit you to show your appreciation on Administrative Professionals Day – set aside another day when time does permit. But, don’t pass up the opportunity to send an e-card, write a personalized note expressing your appreciation and gratitude, go online and send a gift basket or give him or her a gift of their favorite perfume or cologne. Whatever you do, DO NOT LET THE DAY PASS UNRECOGNIZED.

Everyone enjoys recognition!!! So, don’t miss the boat… In closing, remember this:

The manager administers, the leader innovates.
The manager maintains, the leader develops.
The manager relies on systems, the leader relies
on people. The manager counts on controls,
the leader counts on trust.
The manager does things right, the
leader does the right thing.
